Her Life

L. M. is a Spanish writer from Extremadura in south west Spain and is of Galician-Portuguese origin, in the north of the Iberian Peninsula. Through certain circumstances in her life, she came into contact with different people knowledgeable about historical events related to diverse beliefs, ranging from Jewish culture, to animism and neo-paganism.

Keen on these subjects, and in keeping with her Galician origins, she ventures into the deep knowledge of religions, witchcraft and occult sciences. The element of magic is present in her work, which always shows a parallel world we cannot see; but which she does not endow with supernatural value and is present in everyday life. Despite these influences, the tireless reading of Russian writers makes her works have a certain literary realism, which underlies real problems, with characters who are often driven to extremes by circumstances.

A deep admirer of Rosalía de Castro, it is through the influence of Rosalía that a lyrical and fatal touch is brought about in her works. Perhaps her passionate interest in necromancy, witches, Rosalía herself and Portuguese stems from her Galician origins in north-‐west Spain, which also makes the sea so appealing to her. This facet is shown in one of her works, “El perro sobre el acantilado” (“The dog on the cliff”), with over three million readers spread across Belgium, Germany, Holland and Italy.

Her books, although typecast in the genre of mystery and adventure, show a deep knowledge of historical events, religions, and world cities. Their reading is always pleasant because of the succession of romantic conflicts or passionate love stories. The common thread is one or more events that manage to intrigue and surprise the reader.
